Position Summary
Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) is hiring a Plumber Apprentice to assist in the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing systems and fixtures. This part-time, campus-based role is ideal for candidates enrolled in a plumbing trades program or pursuing on-the-job training toward a skilled trades career.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining and repairing plumbing systems, fixtures, valves, and domestic/sewage systems

Perform new pipe and fixture installations under the guidance of the senior plumber

Complete assigned work orders with supervisor-approved priorities

Support emergency operations and weekend/holiday coverage as needed

Work with piping materials including GI, cast iron, and PVC

Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant working environment

Follow applicable codes and safety protocols at all times
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Basic to intermediate knowledge of plumbing and heating systems

Ability to work independently and make sound decisions

Competency in using plumbing tools and equipment (pipe threaders, torches, drills, etc.)

Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, work in tight spaces, and perform manual labor

Basic knowledge of math and ability to read technical drawings

Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and work order systems

Detail-oriented with strong mechanical aptitude and communication skills
Minimum Qualifications

Valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record

Enrollment or participation in a plumbing trades program

Experience and/or training in preventive maintenance
-
Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety guidelines
Preferred Qualifications

Completion of a recognized plumbing apprenticeship program
