Position Summary

Join Banner Health as a Certified Medical Coder – Complex Coder and bring your Cardiology expertise to a dynamic, collaborative, and remote team environment. You’ll be responsible for accurately coding complex professional services (including E&M and surgical cardiology), ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting billing integrity across a nationally respected healthcare system.

This is a remote position with team support, career growth opportunities, and flexible scheduling. Ideal candidates will be CPC-certified with 3+ years of recent coding experience and a passion for accuracy and compliance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Accurately code diagnoses and procedures (ICD, CPT) for surgical and complex cardiology services in line with national coding and reimbursement guidelines.

  • Perform clinical and surgical abstraction from medical records, ensuring all required documentation is present and complete.

  • Address claim edits and ensure clean claims are submitted by resolving issues in a timely manner.

  • Abstract essential data (discharge disposition, dates, provider info) into electronic records.

  • Maintain current knowledge of payer-specific billing requirements and regulatory compliance.

  • Perform charge audits and contribute to updating Charge Master files.

  • Identify system or billing trends that may impact reimbursement.

  • Support the coding team and leadership with validation edits and revision analysis.

  • Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation discrepancies or missing details.

  • Generate and contribute to reports on coding accuracy and productivity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

  • Completion of a formal coding training program or associate degree in a health-related field

  • Active credential: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, or RHIT

  • Minimum 3 years of professional coding experience in Cardiology (Surgical preferred)

  • Familiarity with national reimbursement standards (Medicare/Medicaid, CMS, OIG)

  • Proficiency in coding software, abstracting systems, and remote work technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialty certification (e.g., Radiology Certified Coder – RCC if relevant)

  • Prior experience in a large, multi-system physician practice

  • Additional education or certifications related to coding or compliance
