The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) implements the state’s public school laws and provides leadership for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade public education. Guided by the State Superintendent and State Board of Education, NCDPI supports schools, educators, and communities across the state.

Position Overview

The Business Systems Analyst I (IT Project Manager) will serve in the Project Management Office (PMO), leading IT modernization initiatives that improve efficiency, streamline processes, and drive systemic change across the agency. This position will analyze business operations, develop IT requirements, and apply project management methodologies to ensure successful execution of technology projects.

Note: This is a full-time, time-limited position open only to current NCDPI employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze current business operations to develop IT requirements.

  • Document market research, current-state analysis, and future-state recommendations.

  • Apply project management methodology to plan, monitor, and manage IT projects.

  • Coordinate with DPI business units and Public School Units (PSUs) to implement IT solutions.

  • Support risk analysis, testing methodologies, and business system improvements.

  • Assist with procurement, oversight, and compliance with state IT standards.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel, or other workflow tools.

  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and business system analysis.

  • Demonstrated project planning and execution experience.

  • Strong verbal communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to lead project tasks or small-scope projects.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

Candidates may qualify through education, experience, or an equivalent combination:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, computer science, or related field and 1 year of IT-related experience; OR

  • Associate degree in business administration, computer science, or related field and 2 years of IT-related experience; OR

  • High school diploma/GED and 4 years of IT-related experience.
