Psychiatrist

Summary

Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Psychiatrist provides primary healthcare services at CHC, with independent responsibility for professional results. The role ensures the highest standard of psychiatric and total patient care, emphasizing collaboration, professionalism, and a team-based approach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct and document complete patient histories and assessments.

  • Perform physical and psychiatric evaluations; identify abnormal findings.

  • Deliver diagnostic services, treatment for illnesses, and emergency care.

  • Prescribe and manage medications; provide preventive health guidance.

  • Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging.

  • Refer patients to specialists when appropriate.

  • Participate in policy development, medical committees, and staff education.

  • Provide supervision of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners as directed.

  • Support care coordination, follow-up after hospital discharge, and chronic care management.

  • Apply evidence-based practices and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.

  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and provide care across all age groups.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May supervise mid-level providers at the discretion of the Medical Director.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of Psychiatry residency training.

  • Board Certification in Psychiatry (required).

  • Ongoing CME and active participation in professional medical organizations.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Current unrestricted California Physician & Surgeon License.

  • Current DEA License.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS-C) certification.

  • Annual health clearance, TB testing, and required immunizations.

Skills

  • Excellent clinical judgment with strong knowledge of psychiatric and family-centered medicine.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and reasoning skills.

Physical Demands

  • Regular standing, walking, and sitting.

  • Frequent use of hands for clinical tasks.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally.

  • Requires visual acuity including close, distance, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment

  • Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

  • Travel to various CHC clinic sites as needed.

  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
