The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is dedicated to coordinating services for individuals with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, Prader-Willi syndrome, and other neurological conditions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Medical Oversight: Regularly assess the health and medical needs of individuals, provide nursing oversight during home visits, and collaborate with medical professionals to advocate for patients’ healthcare needs.

  • Support Residential and Day Hab Staff: Assist staff in maintaining health services, provide training and consultations, and ensure that proper documentation is completed in a timely manner.

  • Nursing Services: Respond promptly to emergency medical requests, conduct nursing assessments, and document all necessary medical information related to patients.

  • Supervision & Training: Provide guidance and supervision to nursing staff (LPNs and DSAs), conduct evaluations, and train staff on proper medication administration and nursing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A valid license and current registration as a Registered Nurse in New York State.

Additional Information:

  • Emergency Limited Placement Program: The position is part of the NY HELPS program, allowing non-competitive appointments. Employees hired under this program will transition to permanent competitive status within one year.
