Requirements for the RN Health Care Facility Surveyor:

Possess an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Successfully complete CMS’s Long-Term Care Basic Training and pass the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT).

Have a minimum of two (2) years recent experience working as a surveyor, accrediting or certifying facilities serving long-term care residents.

Maintain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license.

Demonstrate strong independent decision-making skills to effectively manage and direct the survey process.

Ability to independently and collaboratively prioritize tasks during surveys.

Willingness and ability to openly address conflicts and seek assistance when needed to resolve issues.

Must be available to travel up to 75% of the time regularly.

Annual salary range: $75,000 – $90,000.

Responsibilities of the RN Health Care Facility Surveyor:

Position is fully remote with up to 75% travel required.
-
Serve as a team member or team leader on various types of surveys, including re-certification, comparative, complaint investigations, and revisit surveys.

Surveys cover a range of healthcare facilities such as long-term care, ambulatory surgical centers (ASC), Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICFs/IID), end-stage renal disease (ESRD) centers, Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF), hospitals, critical access hospitals, and hospice facilities.

Conduct on-site surveys nationwide to assess compliance with Federal regulations ensuring quality care for residents and patients.

Prepare for surveys with off-site research, facility tours, observation of care practices, record reviews, and interviews with staff and families.

Evaluate all aspects of the healthcare facility including quality of care, patient rights, and physical conditions.

Communicate findings of non-compliance clearly to key personnel during site visits and exit conferences.

Review and approve or reject facility plans of correction.
-
Conduct follow-up and monitoring visits to verify implementation of corrective actions.

Assist with facility and bureau training as needed and participate in work groups.
