Position Overview

Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) is currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Acute Care Unit. This full-time position on the night shift offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working within a dynamic, team-oriented environment. Our 28-bed unit, 2 Central, serves a diverse patient population, including individuals with respiratory conditions, diabetes, complex wounds, and those in need of post-operative or end-of-life care.

The Acute Care team is known for its collaborative spirit, nurturing environment, and strong emphasis on professional growth. Nurses are supported by a care team model which includes LPNs and Patient Care Partners (PCPs), ensuring comprehensive, high-quality care.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Care Delivery

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and reassessments based on condition and protocols

  • Formulate and implement individualized care plans

  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and blood products following safety and documentation protocols

  • Monitor and document vital signs, patient status changes, and clinical progress

  • Initiate emergency responses including activation of the CAT team when necessary

  • Ensure adherence to infection control, patient safety, and national safety goals

Care Coordination & Documentation

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for holistic care delivery

  • Provide clear and concise documentation in the EMR system

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members

  • Utilize bedside technology including IV pumps, lifts, EHRs, and other standard equipment

Patient & Family Education

  • Identify educational needs and provide relevant information regarding diagnoses, treatments, and health maintenance

  • Document all educational interactions and assess patient comprehension

Discharge Planning & Equipment Management

  • Participate in safe discharge planning

  • Demonstrate proper use of clinical equipment and patient transfer devices

Clinical Proficiency & Emergency Preparedness

  • Demonstrate competency in a wide range of nursing procedures

  • Conduct hourly rounds and communicate via patient room whiteboards

  • Remain prepared and actively engage in emergency codes (Blue, Green, Pink, Orange, White, Silver) and drills


Minimum Requirements

Education & Licensure

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s in Nursing)

  • Current and unrestricted New York State RN license

  • Current BLS certification (or must obtain within 30 days of hire)

  • ACLS and/or Neonatal Resuscitation certifications (required within 6 months for applicable units)

Experience

  • Entry-level graduates welcome

  • One (1) year of experience preferred in acute care or medical-surgical nursing (ICU, maternity, psych, etc.)
