Critical Action Items & Measurable Deliverables

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards related to this role.

Develop and manage clinic staffing schedules, addressing and resolving any staffing shortages or coverage gaps.

Deliver comprehensive training to medical staff to ensure competency in their roles and compliance with all required training intervals (quarterly, bi-annual, annual). Provide training to Compass Connections staff and the service population on medical topics including CPR, First Aid, BLS, emergency protocols (e.g., calling 9-1-1), infection control, quality care, and emergency preparedness.

Verify the accurate completion of all nursing responsibilities, including assessments, documentation, appointment scheduling, wellness and isolation checks, immunizations, and regulatory reporting (daily, monthly, annual).

Supervise and direct medical personnel to implement prescribed healthcare plans, ensuring timely execution of all physician or provider treatment orders, including medication administration.

Coordinate with pharmacies to order medications, verify accuracy upon receipt, and promptly resolve any discrepancies.

Maintain open communication with the Deputy Executive Director for Medical Services and the Executive Director regarding healthcare policy updates, quality of care concerns, and contagious disease control protocols.

Ensure an adequate supply of over-the-counter medications at all facilities and oversee the proper disposal of expired or unused medications.

Maintain up-to-date documentation for controlled substances, including reconciliation of all scheduled drugs in accordance with facility policies and procedures.

Submit timely and accurate documentation and reports as required by Compass Connections and all federal and state regulations.

Oversee the creation and auditing of Medication Administration Records (MARs) for each child.

Arrange transportation for children to all healthcare-related appointments (e.g., physician, dental, therapy, lab work).

Contribute to the development and refinement of medical protocols and procedures aligned with federal program standards.

Participate in scheduled staff meetings, collaborative decisions, and operational planning activities.

Safeguard the confidentiality of healthcare records and Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA and Compass Connections policies.

Apply positive behavior management techniques, including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and safe containment.
-
Recognize and appropriately respond to signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually inappropriate behavior, following all required reporting procedures.

Demonstrate professional, culturally sensitive care and compassion when interacting with children.

Maintain a flexible schedule, including availability for on-call shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary or assigned.

Effectively plan and prioritize daily responsibilities using sound judgment and time management.

Follow Compass Connections safety procedures, including emergency evacuations.

Maintain confidentiality across all program operations and service populations.

Uphold Compass Connections’ ethical and professional standards, including respectful behavior, adherence to dress code, and positive interactions with staff, children, and community members.
Additional Responsibilities

Perform and supervise nursing duties at assigned site(s), ensuring compliance with the Texas Board of Nursing standards and best practices.

Oversee, direct, and train site-based medical staff, ensuring alignment with federal, state, and Compass Connections Medical Services Division guidelines.

Implement and monitor healthcare plans prescribed by advanced practice providers or physicians using nursing best practices.
-
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation that meets agency, contract, and regulatory requirements.

Collaborate with the Medical Services team and leadership to develop, review, and update medical protocols and procedures.
-
Consistently meet program and federal partner deadlines and reporting requirements.
Position Requirements

Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and remain compliant with random drug testing protocols throughout employment.

Provide proof of legal work eligibility upon request.

Clear all required criminal background checks prior to employment and biennially thereafter.
