Job Description

Position Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers professional and comprehensive nursing care in an acute care setting. This role is responsible for providing coordinated, safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care tailored to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families throughout all stages of life. The RN practices in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act applicable to the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics, and the ANA scope and standards of practice. Specific duties and required skills are outlined in the unit-specific onboarding checklist and relevant specialty standards.

Education, Licensing & Certification Requirements:

  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of practice.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Agreements regarding the timeline for obtaining a BSN, including those transitioning from the Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) Program, remain in effect unless superseded by a contractual requirement.

  • Specialty certifications are preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are unit-dependent.

Experience:

  • Must hold an active RN license in the state of employment with a minimum of one year of nursing experience.

  • Alternatively, nurses with less than one year of experience who transitioned through the NLRN Residency Program may be considered.

  • Compliance with unit-specific educational requirements is mandatory during employment.

  • BLS certification must be maintained; ACLS certification requirements depend on the assigned unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize professional nursing practices including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

  • Develop, update, and coordinate individualized care plans to meet patient goals and optimize health outcomes across care transitions.

  • Monitor patient status, document findings, and communicate relevant information to the care team.

  • Maintain proficiency in essential competencies related to the patient population and care area.

  • Advocate for ethical, holistic care that respects patient autonomy, dignity, rights, values, and beliefs.

  • Promote learning environments for patients, families, nursing staff, students, and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Ensure patient safety by identifying and addressing potential issues, integrating evidence-based practices, and using data to enhance care quality.

  • Maintain equal focus on patient safety, self-care safety, and environmental safety to support the best outcomes.

  • Engage in continuous professional development and practice within the legal and ethical frameworks of nursing standards.

  • Foster a culture of inquiry by embracing and disseminating research and evidence-based practices.

  • Demonstrate leadership by advocating for change, collaborating effectively, and serving as a role model within the professional nursing community.

  • Participate in the planning and delivery of educational initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the department and organizational goals.
