Job Responsibilities:

  1. Milieu Management & Patient Safety:

    • Create a safe, stable, and nurturing environment using trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate strategies.

    • Apply Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies to manage crises, including de-escalation and physical interventions when needed.

    • Reinforce positive behaviors using a token economy system.

    • Perform safety checks and maintain awareness of environmental risks.

  2. Nursing Care & Clinical Judgment:

    • Apply critical thinking to assess and develop patient care plans.

    • Administer medications and monitor patient responses.

    • Provide support with activities of daily living (e.g., feeding, bathing).

    • Maintain accurate observation levels (e.g., continuous or 15-minute checks).

  3. Group Programming & Therapeutic Engagement:

    • Lead or support structured group programming tailored to developmental needs.

    • Build therapeutic rapport with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.

    • Monitor patient progress through active engagement in activities.

  4. Compliance & Safety Leadership:

    • Stay updated on accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

    • Ensure adherence to departmental policies and hospital protocols.

    • Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

  5. Documentation & Communication:

    • Accurately document assessments, care interventions, and patient progress.

    • Ensure clear communication between the nursing team and other disciplines.

    • Actively participate in family-centered rounds and provide updates to families.

  6. Professional Development & Team Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support continuity of care.

    • Mentor and support student nurses and new staff members.

    • Participate in unit-based councils and peer feedback sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Required:

    • Associate or diploma-prepared RN from an ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA accredited institution.

    • Must enroll in a BSN or MSN program within 1 year of hire and complete within 5 years.

    • Active Ohio RN License (or the ability to obtain other state licensure).

    • Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention during orientation.

  • Preferred:

    • BSN or MSN from an accredited institution.
