REMOTE – Patient Accounting Coordinator 1

Scope of Position

The Revenue Cycle team at OSUWMC ensures accurate processing of patient demographic and insurance information while delivering excellent customer service. Areas include pre-registration, registration, pre-certification, financial clearance, financial assistance, scheduling, billing, claims follow-up, customer service, and cash collection. The team’s primary responsibility is to ensure proper collection of net revenue for services provided.

Position Summary

The Patient Accounting Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of patient billing and collection processing in accordance with departmental policies. Responsibilities may include:

  • Payment posting and cash reconciliation

  • Refund/credit processing

  • Insurance follow-up and claim submission

  • Customer service in a call center setting

  • Self-pay collections

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • At least 1 year of experience in a Patient Access Coordinator role (OSUWMC) or similar healthcare environment

  • PC proficiency and strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Completion of First Impressions and advanced training/development class

  • Ability to train staff and create standard work documents

  • Experience working across multiple service lines, functions, or sites

  • Meets department performance standards with no corrective action in the past 12 months

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Windows, Excel, internet navigation tools, and electronic medical record systems (Epic preferred)

  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to manage stressful situations independently and collaboratively

  • Self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, and highly organized

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize independently, and manage workload without constant supervision

Ongoing Requirements

  • Maintain competency in daily functions and systems

  • Stay current on billing, registration, and scheduling policies

  • Participate in required health, education, and training programs

  • Attend department and health system meetings, in-services, and education forums
