Job Summary
The Nurse Resident is responsible to the Department Director or Manager and works under the guidance of a preceptor. The resident provides direct care for a limited number of patients, with responsibilities increasing as competency is demonstrated. Each nurse resident follows a structured residency program with written goals, periodic feedback, and progressive growth toward independent practice.
Essential Functions

Assess patients by collecting and documenting health status and medical history.

Plan and implement patient care using Nurse Practice Standards.

Evaluate and revise care plans based on ongoing assessments.

Communicate with physicians, nurses, and health team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Educate patients and families with appropriate health information.

Administer medications and IVs per policy and observe/document responses.

Provide thorough shift-change reports and timely documentation.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.

Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations.

Participate in Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Attend all required Nurse Residency classroom sessions, skills updates, and staff meetings.
Education & Experience
-
Education: RN required.
-
Experience/Training:
-
New graduate RN with less than six months (1,040 paid hours) of clinical experience, OR
-
Returning RN with no recent clinical training or experience.

Licenses & Certifications
-
Required: Washington State RN License.
-
Required: AHA (American Heart Association) BLS for Health Care Providers.

Strong clinical assessment, patient care, and technical skills.

Ability to respond promptly to emergencies.

Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.

Ability to provide both physiological and psychological patient support.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing.

Regular lifting/moving of patients and objects over 50 pounds.

Requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus.
