Key Residential Energy Auditor Responsibilities

As a Residential Energy Auditor, your work will include:

  • Performing on-site residential audits for HVAC, insulation, windows, lighting, appliances, and overall building performance.

  • Using tools like blower doors, infrared cameras, and combustion analyzers to identify energy-saving opportunities.

  • Reviewing homeowner utility data and inputting findings into audit software (SnuggPro experience is a plus).

  • Educating residents on rebates, incentives, and best energy-saving practices.

  • Inspecting post-installation work to ensure compliance and quality.

  • Partnering with contractors, utilities, and program managers to improve results.

  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring program compliance.


Residential Energy Auditor Qualifications

To succeed as a Residential Energy Auditor, candidates must have:

  • Residence in Arizona.

  • High school diploma (Associate/Bachelor’s degree in energy, construction, or environmental science preferred).

  • Current BPI Building Analyst Certification (BPI BA) – required.

  • 2+ years of experience in energy auditing, quality assurance, or related fields.

  • Strong knowledge of building science and residential construction.

  • Ability to travel 25%–75% within Arizona (limited overnight travel).

  • US Citizenship (required).

  • Preferred: HERS/RESNET Rater certification, bilingual Spanish skills, and experience with SnuggPro.

Compensation & Benefits for Residential Energy Auditors

  • Competitive salary: $60,000 – $80,000 annually (based on experience).
