Store Associate
Summary
The Store Associate is responsible for ensuring that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge, and all other components of customer service. The associate performs general store operational duties including cashiering, customer service, stocking, processing, pricing, merchandise recovery, and light cleaning or maintenance as assigned. The associate is expected to be engaged in these tasks as assigned during all working hours and will be expected to perform a range of duties in all areas of the store as business needs require.

- Represents and supports the AMVETS brand at all times; maintains a professional appearance and adheres to dress code policy.
- Greets and assists customers; maintains a high level of customer service standards; responds to customer service calls immediately; handles all customer service issues in a courteous and helpful way, including calling a member of management when necessary.
- Operates point of sale system efficiently and accurately; maintains a high level of awareness and accuracy; follows opening and closing procedures; safeguards confidential information, cash and credit card information, and merchandise.
- Receives donations, issues receipts, and maintains daily donation records.
- Understands and adheres to the list of unacceptable donations and communicates policy to customers politely and effectively.
- Assists drivers with unloading merchandise and sorting into carts by department.
- Moves carts and bins of merchandise to the appropriate station.
- Performs, sorting, processing, pricing and stocking merchandise.
- Moves, cleans, processes, and stocks furniture.
- Runs items to the sales floor.
- Assists with sales floor recovery including merchandise color and categorization within each department; keeps floor clear of all merchandise, debris, fixtures and hangers.
- Cleans front entrance, sales floor, production area, hallways, lounges, restrooms, corridors, stairways, locker rooms and all other work areas.
- Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Vacuums, sweeps, and mop floors.
- Collects and disposes of trash and ensures refuse materials are disposed of in the proper containers.
- Keeps cleaning supplies in stock.
- Replaces light bulbs.
- Performs minor repairs.
- Notifies management of major repairs needed.

Work Environment
This job operates in a retail environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory. The employee routinely assists customers throughout the day; uses a point-of-sale (POS) system and handles cash; and receives and processes merchandise, trash and recyclable material.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a variable-hour position. Days and hours of work will vary Sunday through Saturday, 6:00am to 8:00pm.
Required Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. One or more years of related experience in retail industry, preferably in a thrift/discount store.
