Job Overview
R1 RCM Inc. is seeking a Revenue Cycle Associate (Follow-Up & Appeals Specialist) to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll help investigate, resolve, and appeal denied or unpaid claims using in-depth knowledge of the healthcare reimbursement process. You’ll work closely with third-party payers, internal teams, and clinical documentation to ensure accurate claim resolution.
This is a fast-paced, tech-enabled position ideal for someone with at least 2 years of experience in health insurance billing or claims resolution, strong communication skills, and a passion for improving patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Investigate and resolve claim denials by applying knowledge of charge master, ICD-9/CPT coding, EDI billing, and payer policies

Review EOBs and interpret expected reimbursement; apply understanding of legal parameters of plan benefits

Collaborate with third-party payers to establish medical necessity and obtain proper documentation

Work with HIM, PAS, Appeals teams (Case Managers, Letter Writers, Hearing Specialists), and internal departments to resolve adverse benefit determinations

Support general administrative functions: phones, scanning, mail, and filing

Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all confidentiality protocols

Participate in cross-functional learning and contribute to ongoing improvements in appeals workflow
Required Skills & Experience

2+ years of experience in healthcare billing, insurance claims, or revenue cycle management

Strong understanding of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party contracts

Excellent communication skills — verbal and written

Solid analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment

Must be highly organized, resourceful, and detail-oriented
