Job Summary

The A/R Manager is responsible for overseeing patient account representatives and managing assigned payer portfolios. You will monitor aging reports, identify underpayments, escalate unresolved claims, and ensure timely collections while collaborating with internal teams and payers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage A/R aging, analyze trends, and identify cash flow improvement opportunities.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer contracts and underpayment risk areas.

  • Prepare escalation and pre-demand packages with supporting documentation.

  • Monitor payer updates and communicate relevant changes to staff.

  • Respond to claim denials and submit appeals to ensure accurate reimbursements.

  • Lead and train teams on process improvements and contract compliance.

  • Collaborate with support teams and track ongoing issue resolution.

Supervisory Duties

  • Oversee a team of Patient Account Representatives, Leads, and Supervisors.

  • Provide coaching, performance reviews, and workflow direction.

  • Interview, hire, and train new team members as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • 2–4 years of experience in healthcare administration or patient financial services

  • Advanced understanding of A/R in healthcare, particularly managed care and government payers

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or a related field

  • MBA or CPA preferred

  • HFMA certification in Patient Accounts or Hospital Accounting encouraged

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a computer for long periods

  • Standard call center environment

  • Manual dexterity to use office equipment and type efficiently

  • Occasional need to lift/move items over 5 lbs
