We’re currently recruiting for a dedicated School Health Assistant to join our School Nursing Service within South Gloucestershire. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference by promoting children’s health and wellbeing across local schools and community settings. As a School Health Assistant, you’ll work as part of a skilled, supportive team delivering essential public health services such as the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), vision screenings, and health education activities. Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a valued School Health Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:

Supporting the delivery of the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), arranging appointments with schools, and recording children’s height and weight measurements.

Conducting vision screenings following local protocols, managing referrals, and capturing accurate data.

Delivering short-term, supportive health interventions to families under supervision.

Preparing engaging health promotion boards and materials for schools and community venues.

Participating in the planning, organisation, delivery, and review of health promotion activities.

Performing general administrative and clerical duties as required.

Maintaining clear, timely, and accurate records in line with local and national guidelines.

Supporting the implementation of public health programmes such as the Healthy Child Programme.

Working alongside School Nurses, Nurse Associates, and other healthcare professionals to improve child health outcomes.
About You – Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential):

QCF/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Health & Social Care, Childhood Studies, or a related field.

GCSE Grade C/Level 4 or equivalent in English and Maths.

Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Skills and Experience (Essential):

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently with supervision.

Strong organisational and time-management abilities.

Understanding of child development and safeguarding responsibilities within a multi-agency setting.

Willingness to undergo training in health promotion, communication, and safeguarding.
Desirable:

Previous experience in health promotion or a community healthcare role.
