Role Overview
Apple’s Data Protection team—part of the Security Engineering & Architecture organization—is dedicated to ensuring the confidentiality of users’ data at rest through world-class storage encryption and device unlock mechanisms. As a Software Engineer, you’ll work on cutting-edge security foundations across Apple’s products, from Mac, iPhone, and iPad to Apple Watch and Apple TV. Your contributions will span the entire software stack, from kernel-level code to high-level frameworks, impacting millions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities

Define the security properties and architecture for next-generation operating systems.

Design and implement innovative solutions for user data protection, storage encryption, and trusted execution environments.

Develop creative ways to enhance security and privacy while preserving ease of use.

Collaborate with Apple’s Silicon Engineering, Cloud Services, and other security-focused teams.

Drive adoption of new security technologies across Apple’s engineering ecosystem.
Minimum Qualifications

Excellent C programming and systems programming skills.

Strong knowledge of operating system internals.

Industry experience in OS security and applied cryptography.

Proven ability to deliver high-quality work on tight deadlines.

Excellent teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Understanding of past, current, and emerging security exploits.

Experience with iOS and macOS (user, admin, or developer level).

Kernel programming experience.

Knowledge of hypervisor design and architecture.

Contributions to open-source projects such as FreeBSD or Linux.
