Job Overview

Solid Steps is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and qualified SEN Teacher to join our team and support students with a wide range of learning, emotional, physical, and social needs. The successful candidate will take a holistic, individualised approach to teaching, working within a supportive multidisciplinary team to deliver outstanding education and care.

This is a hands-on teaching role that involves leading lessons, supporting behaviour management, planning tailored interventions, and creating a nurturing learning environment both in the classroom and offsite.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Subject Development

  • Lead planning, delivery, and self-evaluation of SEN provision with a focus on continual improvement

  • Play an active leadership role, participating in departmental initiatives and strategic planning

  • Contribute to curriculum innovation and long-term provision goals

Operational & Administrative

  • Manage internal assessments and implement interventions based on data analysis

  • Provide lesson cover when needed and manage support staff rotas

  • Coordinate resources and ensure classroom health & safety standards

  • Lead on public examination entries in collaboration with SLT and exams officer

  • Record all safeguarding incidents using CPOMS and adhere to all Solid Steps Safeguarding protocols

Pupil Support

  • Create a safe, engaging learning space tailored to pupils with SEN, particularly those in the Indigo Group

  • Track academic progress, implement interventions, and report regularly on student outcomes

  • Collaborate with parents and carers to ensure positive engagement and pupil development

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated lessons using ASDAN, Functional Skills, and other curriculum pathways

  • Implement individualised learning plans for students with complex needs

  • Facilitate offsite learning, sensory experiences, and educational trips

  • Lead behaviour support strategies and maintain behaviour plans

  • Contribute to annual reviews, termly reports, and student target setting

  • Collaborate with vocational providers and external specialists to ensure curriculum relevance

  • Ensure cross-subject promotion of literacy and numeracy

Safeguarding & Compliance

  • Actively contribute to a safeguarding-first environment

  • Attend regular safeguarding training sessions

  • Report concerns immediately to Designated Safeguarding Officers

  • Document all incidents and follow established procedures

General Duties

  • Curriculum planning and delivery

  • Lesson and trip risk assessments

  • Staff supervision and rota management

  • Ensuring student safety during offsite activities

  • Support and implement SALT (Speech & Language), OT, and therapy interventions in collaboration with specialist practitioners

Working Conditions

  • Based in a classroom environment within either mainstream or specialist school settings

  • Occasional work with students who have medical or mobility needs

  • Regular collaboration with psychologists, therapists, and other education professionals
