The Role
The Senior Accountant is a highly motivated, detail-oriented and intellectually curious professional with the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies. This individual will take primary ownership for day-to-day general ledger (GL) accounting, treatment, and GAAP compliance, while playing a critical role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and financial reporting process. This role is also responsible for technical accounting research, accounting memos & maintenance of accounting policy, and supports development and maintenance of associated internal controls.
The role will collaborate closely with the Corporate Controller and CFO to support key Finance and Accounting (F&A) priorities including financial audit, 401K audit, annual budgeting, and special projects. Roles And Responsibilities
Prepare and manage weekly bank reconciliations
Execute monthly GL close activities. This includes journal entries (JEs) and balance sheet reconciliations
Maintain and continuously improve accounting policies and related memo documentation
Research and recommend accounting treatment for existing and pending FASB ASCs (i.e. technical accounting Subject Matter Expert (SME))
Maintain, update, and develop internal control documentation
Initiate wires and wire templates as needed
Prepare and deliver financial statements & departmental reports, including variance analyses to monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts
Own fixed assets reporting, including tracking and conducting the annual fixed asset inventory
Develop simple to moderately complex financial and analytic modeling as needed
Support annual budget process, collaborating with departments to ensure alignment with financial goals
Provide key support during the annual financial audit
Assist with the annual 401K audit
Drive or actively contribute to process and technology implementation projects, particularly for CRM and billing systems (with plans to change in 2025)
Serve as a back-up for other accounting functions (AR, AP, etc.)
Contribute to ad-hoc financial projects, providing expertise in accounting processes, analysis, and reporting to support business objectives and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
Skills and Requirements
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field is required, advanced accounting degrees are a plus
CPA Status: Must be eligible or in the process of obtaining, or already possess, an active CPA license
Technical proficiency: Strong aptitude for learning new technologies; must demonstrate the ability to quickly master software tools and systems relevant to accounting, business data and finance.
Intermediate to Advanced Excel Skills: Expertise in Excel is essential. Proficiency in formulas such as sumifs, countifs, match, IF statements, pivot tables, graphs, multi-parameter sorting, various date functions, and more is required. A practical Excel test will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
Intermediate knowledge of internal controls (e.g. core principles, segregation of duties, etc.)
Exceptional Organization Skills: Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and maintain a highly organized approach to all tasks
Attention to Detail: Must be meticulous, ensuring accuracy and precision in all financial activities
QuickBooks Online (QBO) experience is preferred, or the ability to quickly become proficient within two weeks without formal training
Process Improvement Mindset: Always seeking to identify and implement improvements to finance and accounting processes and systems.
