The Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Financial Reporting team in downtown Chicago. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual contributor to deepen their knowledge within a multi-line insurance company (P&C, life, health) with exposure to SEC, GAAP, and statutory accounting. Kemper has a strong history of promoting talent within the department and across the organization.
Your Role:
As a Senior Accountant, you will contribute to our financial reporting processes by:
- Preparing quarterly and annual Statutory financial statements to meet regulatory requirements.
- Collaborating with operational segments on accounting treatment.
- Providing support to internal and external auditors.
- Presenting analytical schedules and variance analyses.
- Leading and managing process improvement projects.
- Assisting with state filing requirements as needed.
- Taking on additional responsibilities as assigned.
What You’ll Bring:
- BA/BS degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of experience in financial reporting; insurance/financial services experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with statutory accounting principles; knowledge of US GAAP and SEC filing requirements is a plus.
- Experience with Workday Financial Management is a plus.
- Experience navigating a large ERP environment.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
- Progressive thinking, a strong work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with various levels of management and professional staff.
- Willingness to work a hybrid schedule with weekly reporting to our Chicago office.
Compensation & Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $68,000 to $113,400, with offers determined by factors such as experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, PTO, and a 401(k).
