Job Overview
Core4ce is seeking a Principal Backend Software Engineer to lead the development of a next-generation, multi-cloud cybersecurity system for a U.S. Department of Defense program. This high-impact, hands-on role combines backend engineering, mission enablement, and systems integration to deliver secure, high-performance, and scalable backend systems across AWS, Azure, and edge environments—enabling operators to detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats in real time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop distributed, cloud-native backend services and APIs for multi-cloud cybersecurity operations.

  • Build secure, high-throughput pipelines for ingesting, processing, and analyzing cyber telemetry data from AWS, Azure, on-premises, and edge sources.

  • Translate mission requirements into deployable, reliable, and scalable software solutions.

  • Develop robust API frameworks and integrations with cybersecurity sensors, analytics tools, and dashboards.

  • Implement microservices architectures, caching strategies, and database optimizations for low-latency, high-availability operations.

  • Drive features from architecture through testing, deployment, and sustainment in operational environments.

  • Collaborate with mission operators to tune configurations for performance, resilience, and security.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of backend software engineering experience in mission-critical or distributed systems.

  • Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python.

  • Expertise in building high-performance APIs (REST, gRPC, or GraphQL).

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and security principles.

  • Hands-on experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.

  • Proven track record of leading projects from architecture to operational deployment.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including managed services and scaling strategies.

  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II or III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, Security+ CE), or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.

  • Active DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Prior experience with cybersecurity-focused backend systems or defensive cyber operations tools.

  • Knowledge of edge computing, disconnected operations, or cross-domain data transfer solutions.

  • Background in DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).

  • Working knowledge of data engineering pipelines.
