This role is full-time and hybrid (1 day per week in office) based out of Los Alamos, NM.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and Development: Supports national research initiatives and mission objectives in the fields of nuclear energy, renewable energy, and medical imaging.
  • Financial Oversight and Collaboration: Assist in managing approximately $60 million in budgets and overseeing 65 full-time equivalents (FTEs). This funding portfolio allows for collaboration with group management, scientists, technical staff and the Program Manager (PM).
  • Budget Management and Financial Analysis: Oversees daily budgeting operations, encompassing preparing financial reports, conducting financial analyses to support operational decision-making, monitoring the application of financial policies, educating clients on relevant budgetary policies and procedures, estimating costs for funding proposals, tracking cash flow and expenditures against planned budgets, forecasting future expenditures, and facilitating financial meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Data Management and Modeling: Utilize financial modeling techniques to analyze data, assess financial scenarios, and support business cases for new projects or investments.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with various departments, including finance, operations, and management, to gather requirements, provide financial insights, and support cross-functional projects.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience. A combination of education and proven experience related to position.
  • Financial and Accounting Knowledge: Familiarity with financial principles, encompassing financial planning and analysis, budget development and implementation, business analysis, and overall business operations. Experience in analyzing financial data and offering financial advice, alternatives, and recommendations to clients. Skilled in identifying opportunities for enhancement, particularly in strengthening internal controls and increasing business process efficiencies.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in pinpointing opportunities for enhancement, particularly in strengthening internal controls and optimizing business process efficiencies. Ability to adopt an institutional perspective, showcasing excellent professional judgment and technical expertise. Demonstrated strong problem-solving capabilities while managing projects of varying complexities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint preferred. Advanced Excel skills, encompassing pivot tables, formula creation and utilization, as well as data manipulation.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex financial issues, evaluate alternative solutions, and recommend optimal courses of action to management.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to senior management, investors, and colleagues. Able to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision, including the ability to identify errors or discrepancies and reconcile data effectively.
