We’re hiring a Data Scientist to join our Fraud & Limits team. In this role, you’ll strengthen fraud defenses, mitigate risks like account takeovers and fraudulent applications, and partner with product, engineering, and risk teams to safeguard both our customers and the financial system.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop dashboards and monitoring systems for fraud and account health metrics.

  • Conduct deep-dive analyses of fraud patterns and translate insights into actionable strategies.

  • Build, validate, and deploy machine learning models to prevent fraud in real time.

  • Ensure data reliability and support ad hoc investigations.

  • Collaborate with engineering and risk strategy teams to optimize rules and scoring systems.

  • Partner across product, design, and operations to embed data insights into business decisions.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years working with large datasets, including 1+ year in fraud or risk-related domains.

  • Proficiency in SQL and experience handling imperfect datasets.

  • Strong Python skills with applied statistical modeling and machine learning experience.

  • Hands-on experience deploying and monitoring ML models in production.

  • Ability to balance high-impact initiatives with foundational analytics and reporting.

  • Comfort in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Bonus Skills

  • Experience building zero-to-one solutions in ambiguous spaces.

  • Familiarity with LLMs or generative AI in risk and fraud detection.

  • Knowledge of modern data pipeline tools (e.g., dbt).

Compensation & Benefits
Mercury offers a highly competitive total rewards package including salary, stock options, and benefits. New hire ranges for this role are:

  • US employees: $166,600 – $208,300 USD

  • Canadian employees: $157,400 – $196,800 CAD

Final offers are based on experience, expertise, location, and internal pay equity.
