The Role
We are seeking a Data Scientist with a strong engineering and operational mindset to join our innovative team focused on personal auto risk modeling and telematics. This role goes beyond typical data science responsibilities—you’ll architect scalable pipelines, develop shared libraries, and drive engineering excellence across the data team. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, you’ll help shape next-generation risk models and ensure their seamless deployment in a modern, cloud-first environment.
Key Responsibilities

Model & Pipeline Development
Design, build, and maintain advanced risk models and data pipelines for personal auto insurance. Develop modular, reusable components to streamline future modeling initiatives. -
Technical Leadership
Mentor peers across data science and engineering by promoting best practices in version control, testing, CI/CD, and reproducibility. Conduct code reviews and champion a culture of quality. -
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with actuarial, product, and engineering teams to turn complex analytical models into scalable, real-world solutions. -
End-to-End Ownership
Lead full project lifecycles—from scoping and architecture to deployment and post-launch monitoring—ensuring reliability and performance in cloud-based environments. -
Stakeholder Communication
Present technical roadmaps and data insights to senior leadership, demonstrating how analytics and engineering align with strategic goals. -
Infrastructure & Tooling
Optimize and automate data science environments in the cloud. Define standards for resource provisioning, environment configuration, and deployment. -
Continuous Innovation
Stay current with the latest in machine learning, data engineering, and MLOps. Integrate emerging tools and methods to keep Quanata at the forefront of risk analytics.
About You

Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field. -
Experience
12+ years of combined experience in data science and/or data engineering. Proven record of building and managing complex pipelines and scalable analytics tools. -
Technical Skills

Proficient in Python and SQL within cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Skilled in software engineering principles: code reviews, containerization, CI/CD, and version control.

Modeling Expertise
Deep knowledge of machine learning methods with a strong ability to operationalize models in production. -
Communication & Collaboration
Clear communicator with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders and work cross-functionally. -
Execution-Oriented
Comfortable owning projects end-to-end and shipping high-quality outputs at speed.
Bonus Qualifications

PhD in a quantitative field or actuarial credentials (or progress toward them)

Background in auto insurance or experience handling telematics and unstructured data

Hands-on experience with telematics, IoT pipelines, or signal processing

Contributions to open-source projects or experience maintaining shared analytical libraries
Compensation
Base Salary Range: $250,000 – $400,000
Final offer will depend on experience, skills, and internal equity.
