DevOps Engineer – Charlie Health

About the Role

At Charlie Health, we are on a mission to provide effective, accessible mental health treatment to those in crisis. We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to architect, build, and maintain our AWS cloud infrastructure while driving automation, security, and scalability. You will play a key role in optimizing our CI/CD pipelines, improving system reliability, and enhancing developer productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure using Terragrunt and OpenTofu (Terraform).

  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions to improve deployment efficiency.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and scaling using Bash, Golang, and Python.

  • Implement security best practices, including IAM, networking, and HIPAA compliance controls.

  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to deliver platform capabilities that support new services.

  • Enhance system reliability, observability, security, and cost-efficiency.

  • Break down key initiatives into actionable milestones, delivering incremental value.

  • Mentor engineers and continuously improve platform architecture and processes.

  • Improve developer experience by abstracting common functionalities and gathering feedback.

  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure system availability and incident resolution.

Required Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform, SRE, or Cloud Engineering roles.

  • 3+ years of hands-on expertise with AWS services (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, Aurora, SQS, EventBridge, EC2, ECR, etc.).

  • Strong proficiency in Terraform/OpenTofu for infrastructure as code (IaC).

  • Experience with Linux administration, networking, and security best practices.

  • Proficiency in Bash, Python, or Golang for automation and scripting.

  • Expertise in CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.

  • Strong understanding of Docker and container orchestration.

  • Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, Honeycomb, Loki, Sumologic, OpsGenie).

  • Ability to troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis, and document post-mortems for security incidents and system outages.

  • Experience working in fast-paced startup environments, with strong problem-solving and communication skills.

  • Hands-on experience in on-call rotations, responding to critical incidents promptly.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Experience with large cloud migrations or transitioning from monolith to microservices.

  • MLOps experience with AWS SageMaker.

  • Backend development experience in Python, TypeScript, or Golang.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven developer productivity tools.

  • Background in Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or Quality Assurance (QA).

Work Environment

Charlie Health follows a hybrid work model for team members living within 45 minutes of a Charlie Health office.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000 per year (varies based on location, experience, and expertise).
