Senior DevOps Engineer

Job Category: Technology and IT
Job Type: Full Time
Job Location: USA
Company Name: Carrum Health

Company Overview

Healthcare today is often overly complex and expensive. At Carrum Health, we’re streamlining the process by simplifying the payment model and delivering greater value for both employers and their employees. Through our innovative platform, we connect self-insured employers directly with leading regional healthcare providers, offering the industry’s first comprehensive bundled payment solution. This transformative approach redefines how healthcare is paid for and delivered, enhancing the value of health benefits for employers and their members.

Carrum’s solution is a true “win-win” for all stakeholders, which is rare in healthcare:

  • Employers benefit from significant cost savings and predictable expenses, without added risk or hassle.

  • Members enjoy high-quality care and a concierge experience with no out-of-pocket costs, allowing them to focus on their recovery rather than dealing with medical bills.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in bridging development and operations through close collaboration, infrastructure as code (IaC), automation, and systems maintenance. This position requires strong communication skills to work with stakeholders, ensuring their needs are understood and progress is clearly communicated. The ideal candidate will excel in designing and implementing best-practice IaC solutions, automating infrastructure deployment, scaling, and management, as well as maintaining systems to meet company requirements. Additionally, you will lead incident response efforts, conduct root cause analysis, and work towards resolving issues promptly and preventing future occurrences.

Beyond these core responsibilities, you will integrate security best practices throughout the infrastructure lifecycle, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining comprehensive documentation of technical procedures, configurations, and deployed solution architectures. You will report directly to the DevOps Engineering Manager.

Salary Range:
$165,000 – $180,000 per year (dependent on geography and experience level), plus equity and annual bonuses.

What You’ll Do at Carrum Health:

  • Collaborate with a diverse team that values inclusion and openness, driving progress together.

  • Ensure high-quality documentation accompanies every project, not just functional code.

  • Work cross-functionally to identify, prevent, and solve problems affecting our patients.

  • Lead the way as a peer leader and expert on cloud-based infrastructure, elevating Carrum Health’s platform to the next level.

  • Prioritize security in everything we do, always striving to improve and safeguard our systems.

  • Contribute directly to shaping the technical direction and product roadmap of the company.

  • Take ownership of your code and release work frequently into the production environment.

  • Write clear, actionable stories that drive our backlog and foster the creation of high-quality products.

What We’re Looking for:

  • 7+ years of experience with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and/or site reliability engineering.

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with container orchestration tools (e.g., ECS, EKS) and related deployment models and monitoring/observability tools.

  • Expertise in implementing DevOps culture and fostering collaboration between development and operations teams.

  • Strong background in designing and implementing monitoring solutions for cloud infrastructure management.

  • Passion for solving problems and automating workflows to enhance cloud infrastructure and pipeline management.

  • Experience optimizing system reliability, scalability, and performance through DevOps methodologies.

  • A balanced focus on problem identification, solution creation, and sharing insights with the team.

  • Expertise in scaling platforms on AWS and Azure, designing cloud solutions in alignment with industry best practices.

  • Preferred certifications include AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AZ-400: Microsoft Certified DevOps Engineer Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Docker Certified Associate, and HashiCorp Terraform Associate.

  • Solid understanding of maintaining high uptime and managing platforms effectively with monitoring tools like New Relic and CloudWatch.

  • Ability to coach and collaborate with engineering teams to strike a balance between resilience, maintainability, and roadmap objectives.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, empathetic, and friendly approach.

  • Experience in the healthcare space or another highly-regulated industry is a plus.

  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements and iterate rapidly on solutions.

Why You’ll Love Working at Carrum Health:

  • Work with a talented team from diverse backgrounds and esteemed organizations like Booz & Company, Livongo, Google, and Optum.

  • Play a key role in transforming healthcare for top hospitals and respected employers across the nation.
