About the Role
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Charlie Health, you will design, build, and maintain our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automation frameworks. You’ll collaborate closely with Platform and DevOps teams, as well as product, security, data, and machine learning engineers, to ensure seamless deployments, high system availability, robust security, and cost-effective operations.

Our engineering teams practice trunk-based development and deploy to production more than 20 times per week. We operate in a Scrumban-style 2-week sprint cadence, working remotely across time zones, with core meeting hours from 12 PM to 5 PM EST. Hybrid work is required for those near our NY office.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage AWS cloud infrastructure using Terragrunt and OpenTofu (Terraform).

  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to enhance deployment efficiency and developer productivity.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and monitoring with Bash, Golang, and Python.

  • Apply security best practices across cloud infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring HIPAA compliance.

  • Partner with product engineering teams to develop foundational platform capabilities for new services.

  • Drive initiatives to enhance reliability, scalability, observability, security, and cost-efficiency across our systems.

  • Break down complex initiatives into clear, incremental milestones and deliver continuous value.

  • Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to the improvement of our architecture and engineering processes.

  • Enhance developer experience by abstracting common functionality and incorporating feedback from engineering teams.

  • Participate in on-call rotations to ensure system uptime and rapid incident response.


Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform, Site Reliability, or Cloud Engineering roles.

  • 3+ years of strong hands-on experience with AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, Aurora, SQS, EventBridge, EC2, ECR, and more).

  • Expertise with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform/OpenTofu.

  • Solid background in Linux administration, networking, and security.

  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Golang.

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD platforms like GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.

  • Strong knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration frameworks.

  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Datadog, Honeycomb, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Sumologic, OpsGenie).

  • Proven ability to break down large projects into manageable, value-driven milestones.

  • Passion for building scalable, secure, automated systems.

  • Experience handling production incidents and conducting post-incident analyses.

  • Prior participation in an on-call rotation, with quick and effective incident response skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Note: Team members living within 45 minutes of a Charlie Health office are expected to follow a hybrid work schedule.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading large-scale cloud migrations or monolith-to-microservices transitions.

  • MLOps experience with AWS SageMaker.

  • Software development skills in Python, TypeScript, or Golang.

  • Familiarity with AI-powered developer productivity tools.

  • Background in SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) or QA (Quality Assurance).

Charlie Health offers a competitive and comprehensive benefits package to full-time, exempt employees.
The target base salary range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000 per year, depending on factors such as location, experience, expertise, and internal equity.
