About the Role:
The Washington Post’s finance team is seeking a seasoned Senior Financial Accountant to join our financial accounting and reporting group. Responsibilities:

  • Manage general ledger activities including journal entries, month-end/year-end closes, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Conduct variance and budget analyses for income statements and balance sheets, including international entities.

  • Collaborate with management on GAAP interpretations and maintain comprehensive process documentation.

  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.

  • Support audits with timely preparation of schedules and documentation.

  • Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed.

  • Provide excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.

  • 4+ years progressive accounting, finance, or audit experience.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and Power Pivot; experience with automation tools (e.g., Alteryx) preferred.

  • Familiarity with Oracle, Hyperion SmartView, BlackLine, Salesforce, Bloomberg Tax, SAP, and related systems is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and project management skills.

  • Detail-oriented, with a strong initiative for research and follow-through.

Work Environment:

  • Onsite work five days a week, with exceptions for business travel or newsgathering needs.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range: $74,000 – $111,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
