About the Role:
The Washington Post’s finance team is seeking a seasoned Senior Financial Accountant to join our financial accounting and reporting group. Responsibilities:

Manage general ledger activities including journal entries, month-end/year-end closes, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Conduct variance and budget analyses for income statements and balance sheets, including international entities.

Collaborate with management on GAAP interpretations and maintain comprehensive process documentation.

Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.

Support audits with timely preparation of schedules and documentation.

Perform ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed.

Provide excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.

4+ years progressive accounting, finance, or audit experience.

Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.

Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and Power Pivot; experience with automation tools (e.g., Alteryx) preferred.

Familiarity with Oracle, Hyperion SmartView, BlackLine, Salesforce, Bloomberg Tax, SAP, and related systems is a plus.

Excellent communication and project management skills.

Detail-oriented, with a strong initiative for research and follow-through.
Work Environment:

Onsite work five days a week, with exceptions for business travel or newsgathering needs.
Compensation & Benefits:

Salary range: $74,000 – $111,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
