Position Overview:

Optum is seeking experienced Senior Inpatient Medical Coders to provide accurate coding for acute care inpatient services. This remote role supports trauma-level and teaching hospitals, helping drive better health outcomes across the U.S. This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours per week, including at least one weekend day.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assign accurate ICD-10-CM & ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient records

  • Ensure appropriate DRG assignment using CC/MCC documentation

  • Query providers as needed for clarification

  • Maintain coding productivity and quality standards set by Optum360

  • Participate in ongoing training, audits, and department meetings

 Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)

  • Valid AHIMA or AAPC coding certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, etc.)

  • 3+ years inpatient acute care coding experience

  • 2+ years working in Level 2 (or higher) trauma/teaching hospital

  • Proficient in ICD-10 & DRG coding

  • Comfortable working remotely and independently

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Level 1 Trauma centers

  • Experience in OSHPD reporting

  • Familiar with 3M, EPIC, and eCAC encoder systems

  • Outpatient facility coding experience is a plus

 Work Schedule:

  • Full-time (40 hrs/week)

  • Choose from: Tuesday–Saturday, Sunday–Thursday, or both weekend days

  • Training: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM (first 4 weeks)

 Compensation & Benefits:

  • Hourly Pay: $23.41–$41.83 (based on experience/location)
