We are hiring a detail-oriented Medical Coder for a 3-month remote contract. As a Medical Coder, you will review medical records, assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, and ensure compliance with reimbursement guidelines. This role requires strong coding knowledge, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining coding accuracy and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities of a Medical Coder

Review and interpret medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes

Apply official coding guidelines for Evaluation & Management, surgical, and ancillary services

Ensure coding accuracy for diagnoses, conditions, and procedures

Sequence codes correctly to comply with payer and reimbursement requirements

Clarify ambiguous or conflicting documentation with physicians when needed

Stay current with coding updates, guidelines, and industry standards

Utilize encoders (Optum, 3M) and EPIC for coding processes

Complete productivity and quality reporting within deadlines

Maintain compliance with coding quality standards and organizational policies

Assist with charge corrections and reporting as required
Skills and Qualifications for a Medical Coder

Minimum 2 years of professional fee coding experience (physician/medical office)

Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and medical terminology

Experience with EPIC, Optum, or 3M encoders preferred

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and data entry

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to research, compile data, and ensure compliance with payer rules

Experience with terminal digit and alpha-numeric filing systems preferred
Education & Certification:

Post-High School or equivalent

Active certification: CPC, CCS-P, or CCS (required)
