Position Overview:

We are seeking a proactive Senior Network Engineer in the Chicago area to develop and maintain client network environments, with network security experience being a plus. This technical role focuses on delivering reliable, world-class service for client networking and DC/Cloud infrastructures. As a key advisor and mentor, you will guide the network team in designing, analyzing, configuring, troubleshooting, and implementing network solutions. A strong understanding of coding languages, protocols, hardware, and IP-based networking is essential. This role requires travel to customer sites throughout the greater Chicago area several times per month, including the far western suburbs.

What You’ll Do:

  • Troubleshoot escalated LAN, WAN, and wireless network issues.
  • Design, deploy, and configure functional networks (LAN, WAN, SDWAN, Wi-Fi) for new implementations.
  • Design, deploy, and configure security devices (Firewalls/IPS/VPN).
  • Manage NAC/ISE/ACS services and policies.
  • Configure and install network devices (switches, servers, routers), performing upgrades as needed.
  • Maintain patch configuration information according to vendor severity levels.
  • Monitor network performance and integrity.
  • Respond to incidents to diagnose and resolve connectivity and performance problems.
  • Write Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reports and participate in customer meetings.
  • Analyze recurring tickets to implement preventative solutions.
  • View and analyze system and application logs.
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Mentor junior team members on technical issues.
  • Communicate with stakeholders and end users as needed.
  • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation (network drawings, processes, instructions).
  • Assist in analyzing network reporting and suggest improvements for performance, capacity, and scalability.

What You Will Bring To The Team:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Senior Network Engineer, including L3 escalation.
  • Experience/skills in: Cisco Switching, Cisco ISE, Meraki, HP Aruba, Cato Networks, Fortinet, SDWAN, F5, Palo Alto, and ExtraHop.
  • Experience with tools/systems: Solar Winds, OpenGear, GigaMon, Packet Capture, Big Panda, Rubrik, Cherwell ITSM.
  • Strong knowledge of routing and switching technologies.
  • Experience supporting Active Directory and DNS environments.
  • Professional certification (e.g., CCNP, CCDP, CCNA).
  • Strong working knowledge of Network Management Systems and Platforms (Manage Engine, Site24x7).
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds network tools).
  • Solid background in network administration and architecture.
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl).
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems (JUNOS, Cisco IOS).
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills.
  • Prior experience supporting new installations and network troubleshooting in a nationwide retail environment.
  • Ability to work independently.

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS, Microsoft Azure, Hybrid cloud).
