The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is hiring Limited Term and Emergency Hire IT Specialist II positions to support disaster response and recovery operations in Southern California.
Position Summary
Reporting to the IT Manager I in the Infrastructure Services Unit, the IT Specialist II plays a key role in managing Cal OES’s complex network infrastructure. Responsibilities include the design, implementation, and maintenance of network routing and switching systems using terrestrial circuits, satellite, microwave, and mobile technologies. This role also supports secure communications (CLETS and DHS/FEMA systems), requiring a background check and possibly security clearance. Some travel and deployment for extended periods may be required.
Key Duties

Lead network design, configuration, and maintenance

Monitor traffic, troubleshoot issues, and support data services

Work independently and collaboratively within project teams

Support emergency communications infrastructure statewide
Employment Types

Limited Term: Up to 12 months, extendable to 24 months with potential for permanency

Emergency Hire: Up to 189 days in 12 months, paid hourly without medical or retirement benefits
