Job Overview
Transform technology into opportunity as a Senior Network Engineer with GDIT. This hybrid role combines day-to-day network administration with high-level enterprise network engineering. You will support and modernize the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science’s network infrastructure, ensuring secure, high-performance connectivity while leading modernization projects such as cloud integration, core network redesign, and security architecture improvements.
Key Responsibilities

Balance engineering and operational tasks, including network design, administration, and device configuration.

Administer and maintain enterprise networks: routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless, and load balancers.

Engineer scalable architectures supporting availability, fault tolerance, and DOE IT strategy compliance.

Manage advanced routing (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP) across hybrid connectivity models (DMVPN, MPLS).

Configure and optimize next-gen firewalls (Palo Alto) with HA, SSL decryption, and IPS tuning.

Design and manage Azure hybrid networking (VNets, ExpressRoute, peering, NAT Gateway).
-
Implement and manage NAC solutions (e.g., Cisco ISE) with potential Intune integration.

Lead infrastructure modernization projects, including data center moves.

Use tools like Catalyst Center, SolarWinds, and Azure Network Watcher for monitoring and optimization.

Maintain detailed documentation (diagrams, baselines, IPAM, change records).

Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams and mentor junior staff.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field.

7+ years of experience in enterprise networking.

Cisco CCNP (Routing & Switching or Enterprise).

Microsoft AZ-700 and AZ-104 certifications.

Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DMVPN, DNS, DHCP.

Experience with Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, ISR, C8500 series, and Palo Alto firewalls.

Azure networking experience (ExpressRoute, NSGs, vWAN, VPNs, peering).

Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

US Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications

CCIE, PCNSE, or additional Azure network/security certifications.

Experience with Cisco ISE, DNA Center, and SD-WAN.

Federal/DOE environment experience.

Leadership in large-scale infrastructure projects.

Azure security solutions (Front Door, WAF, NAT Gateway, Private Link).

PowerShell or Python automation skills.
