Job Overview
Transform technology into opportunity as a Senior Network Engineer with GDIT. This hybrid role balances day-to-day administration of the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science’s network with enterprise network modernization efforts. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring secure, high-performance connectivity while leading projects such as cloud integration, security architecture upgrades, and core network redesign.
Key Responsibilities

Provide both engineering and operational support: network design, architecture, and device configuration.

Administer and maintain multi-site enterprise networks (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, wireless, load balancers).

Design scalable and resilient network architectures that support growth, availability, and DOE security standards.

Engineer advanced routing strategies (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, DMVPN, MPLS).

Configure Palo Alto next-gen firewalls with HA, SSL decryption, IDS/IPS integration.

Design/manage Azure hybrid networking (VNets, ExpressRoute, peering, NAT Gateway).

Implement NAC (Cisco ISE) and integrate with Microsoft Intune for endpoint compliance.

Lead modernization projects, including data center moves and new technology deployments.

Monitor and optimize performance using Catalyst Center, SolarWinds, Azure Network Watcher.

Maintain accurate documentation (topologies, baselines, IPAM, change logs).

Collaborate cross-functionally and mentor junior staff.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field.

7+ years of enterprise networking experience.

Cisco CCNP certification.
-
Microsoft AZ-700 and AZ-104 certifications.

Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, DMVPN, DNS, DHCP.

Hands-on with Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, ISR, and C8500 series.

Palo Alto firewall experience (SSL decryption, HA, IPS tuning).

Azure networking: ExpressRoute, NSGs, vWAN, VPNs, peering.

US Citizenship and ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications

CCIE, PCNSE, or additional Azure certifications.

Experience with Cisco ISE, DNA Center, SD-WAN.

Federal/DOE environment experience.

Leadership in large-scale infrastructure projects.

Azure security features (Front Door, WAF, Private Link, NAT Gateway).

Automation skills (PowerShell, Python).
