Job Summary
The Accounts Receivable Senior Representative is responsible for managing the complete follow-up process on outstanding medical claims. This includes identifying payment issues, resolving account discrepancies, working with payors, and supporting A/R collections for both government and commercial insurance accounts. The role involves collaborating with team members, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring claims are followed through to resolution efficiently and accurately.
Key Responsibilities

Follow up on submitted claims and remittances to resolve payment delays and denials

Review and take action on outstanding A/R balances from Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare, and Medicaid

Investigate and resolve underpayments, overpayments, credit balances, and disputed claims

Access payor websites and internal systems to research claim statuses and determine next steps

Accurately document all actions and communications within the patient accounting system

Contact insurance companies and/or patients with professionalism to collect outstanding balances

Analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) and UB-04 forms to interpret payment details

Identify trends or system issues causing delays and escalate as needed

Mentor and assist with training of new or current team members to increase productivity and accuracy

Contribute to special projects and participate in meetings or training sessions
Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree a plus)

2–5 years of experience in hospital or medical insurance collections

Typing speed: Minimum 45 WPM
-
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and general PC skills
-
Intermediate knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding

Strong communication, critical thinking, and decision-making skills

Deep understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle, including claims processing, billing, appeals, and collections

Familiarity with managed care contracts, payer rules, and government regulations
Preferred Skills

Advanced experience with EOB analysis, insurance terminology, and appeals processes

Understanding of federal and state guidelines for Medicare and Medicaid

Experience working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
