Senior Payroll Specialist

The Washington Post is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to oversee the end-to-end processing of U.S. biweekly or monthly payroll cycles in Workday. This role involves managing payroll for approximately 2,400 employees across multiple FEINs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and reconcile payroll for assigned frequency, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Manage payroll inputs, audits, and approvals, including timesheets and retroactive adjustments.

  • Utilize ADP SmartCompliance for garnishments and tax filings; manage wage payments through Wells Fargo.

  • Respond to payroll inquiries, liaise with HR on pay-related matters, and review complex payroll cases.

  • Maintain accurate records, generate reports, and update payroll processes as needed.

  • Assist with audits, system notifications, and ad hoc projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years of multistate payroll processing experience.

  • Proficiency in Workday Payroll, ADP tax compliance tools, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations, exceptional attention to detail, and time management skills.

  • Excellent communication and ability to work independently or collaboratively.

  • Commitment to confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international payroll (EMEA & APAC) and union payroll.

  • FPC or CPP certification; Workday Payroll certification.

  • Experience in payroll system implementations or upgrades.
