The British Red Cross is seeking a dynamic Senior Social Media Officer to help elevate our storytelling, grow our digital reach, and drive engagement across social platforms—from Facebook to TikTok.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by leading social media campaigns that support people facing crises in the UK and around the world.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead social media content creation across platforms to promote emergency appeals, international stories, and mission-driven initiatives.

  • Collaborate across departments including communications, digital, fundraising, and marketing to ensure integrated campaigns.

  • Support strategy planning with the Social Media Manager, helping shape the national and global digital voice of the Red Cross.

  • Engage with diverse audiences, developing new ways to reach underrepresented communities.

  • Manage multiple projects at once, often in fast-paced and reactive environments—especially during emergency response efforts.

  • Create compelling storytelling content that resonates emotionally and inspires public action.

  • Represent the social team in cross-functional and international projects, ensuring brand consistency and digital best practice.

  • Use digital and social analytics tools to measure success and guide future content decisions.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven expertise in social media strategy, tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite), and editing software (e.g., Canva, Adobe tools).

  • Substantial experience in digital environments, ideally within a non-profit, humanitarian, or agency setting.

  • Demonstrated success in executing impactful social campaigns with measurable results.

  • Strong project management and multi-tasking skills, especially under tight deadlines or during crisis communications.

  • A keen sense of tone, audience, and sensitivity—especially when working with vulnerable individuals or international partners.

  • Community management experience including online reputation, moderation, and audience engagement.
