About the Role

A growing educational institution is seeking a Severe Needs Para Educator to support students with severe special education needs. Under the guidance of licensed special education staff, you will assist individuals and small groups with curriculum, implement behavior strategies, provide technical physical care, and support online/remote learning environments. Assignments may include Autism, Behavior Development (BD), Early Childhood Education, Homebound (FAPE), Integrated Learning Center (ILC), Serious Emotional Disability (SED), and Transition Programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with classroom activities, adapting curriculum to individual needs and ensuring generalization of skills.

  • Implement student accommodations, supports, and programming from Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

  • Maintain records of student progress, behavior, and assessments in coordination with licensed staff.

  • Prepare student materials, administer tests, and support classroom events.

  • Provide technical physical care, including toileting, feeding, positioning, and care of medical devices as trained.

  • Monitor and support appropriate student behavior using verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention techniques.

  • Support students in online/remote learning environments, including curriculum delivery, assignments, and technology troubleshooting.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.

  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.

  • Mandatory biennial Crisis Prevention Intervention training (provided by the district).

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and office equipment.

  • Ability to work independently and with small groups of students.

  • Skills in curriculum modification, behavior management, and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, reaching, or overhead work.

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred.

  • Experience with public education or working with students with special needs (autism, behavior challenges, medically fragile conditions, hearing/vision loss, intellectual disabilities).

  • CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Cultural competency and experience with diverse student populations.

Work Environment

  • Primarily indoor, moderate noise level.

  • Independent Learning Classroom (ILC) or Homebound program.

  • May include online/remote support for students.
