Position Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder’s Campus Dining and Hospitality (CD&H) department is seeking a Shift Supervisor (Banquet Captain) to join our dynamic and service-oriented team. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the setup, service, and breakdown of catered events and dining operations. The position plays a critical role in ensuring high service standards, food safety, and team coordination in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
You’ll supervise full-time, student, and temporary staff, assign responsibilities based on operational flow, and serve as the point person during events or service shifts. This position fosters a positive team culture while ensuring compliance with sanitation, safety, sustainability, and customer service standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance & Service Standards

Resolve customer concerns and implement corrective actions.

Ensure food labeling, safety, and sanitation standards are consistently met.

Audit operational efficiency and recommend improvements.

Maintain high-quality setups and breakdowns for all events in accordance with SOPs.
2. Staff Supervision & Personnel Management

Assign daily tasks, ensure scheduling adherence, and coordinate break times.

Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations.

Foster a supportive work environment through effective communication and leadership.

Document incidents and collaborate with leadership on staffing issues.
3. Event and Dining Operations

Operate food preparation and service equipment.

Support ordering, receiving, and supply management.

Ensure all catering vehicles and equipment are clean and functional.

Use university vehicles to transport food, beverages, and materials to events.
Required Qualifications

Four (4) years of food service experience (relevant education may substitute year-for-year).

Valid driver’s license with a clean record.

Must obtain State Food Safety Certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain it throughout employment.

Availability to work nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in high-volume university or institutional catering operations.

On- and off-premise catering experience.

Familiarity with banquet service styles and event logistics.

Bartending or mixology experience.
