Position Overview:
Scullen Middle School is seeking a qualified and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to provide real-time sign language interpretation for students with hearing impairments. This full-time position plays a vital role in ensuring equitable access to classroom instruction, assessments, peer interactions, and school activities.
Key Responsibilities:

Interpret spoken English into sign language in a variety of educational settings.

Accurately convey speaker’s words, tone, and intent using the student’s preferred communication mode.

Interpret the student’s signed responses into spoken English clearly and articulately.

Facilitate effective two-way communication between the student and teachers, staff, or peers.

Support students with cues, prompts, and redirection to stay on task.

Assist in classroom, district, and state testing administration.

Monitor and communicate student performance and behavior to staff.

Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance curriculum access and meet learning objectives.

Enforce school rules and serve as a positive role model for students.
Qualifications:

Passing score for state certification in sign language interpretation.

Proficiency in English (spoken and written).

Skilled in receptive and expressive American Sign Language (ASL) or other preferred student modes.

Ability to accurately interpret tone, intent, and inflection.

Prior experience working with students or in an educational setting is a plus.
