About the Role

Balfour Beatty’s Highways business has an exciting opportunity for a Site Engineer to join our expert team delivering the A57 Link Road project near Manchester. This is a fantastic chance to join one of the UK’s leading infrastructure businesses and work on a major highways scheme with real community impact.

You’ll coordinate key site works, manage subcontractors, and lead aspects of on-site delivery. You’ll also supervise junior engineers and play an integral part in delivering works safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

 What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Oversee a section of on-site works, coordinating with Site Engineers and Apprentices

  • Conduct setting out and dimensional checks using appropriate surveying methods

  • Maintain accurate survey records and as-built drawings

  • Supervise graduate/trainee engineers and support their development

  • Carry out daily safety checks, inspections, and Permit to Dig tasks

  • Monitor and report construction progress against short-term programmes

  • Manage subcontractor activities and ensure adherence to site specifications

  • Input, update, and close out job requests in line with the engineering job log system

  • Participate in the site emergency team and respond to fire alarms and incidents

 What We’re Looking For:

Required:

  • 2–3 years’ experience on highways infrastructure with a Tier 1 contractor

  • HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management

  • Full UK driving licence and a valid CSCS card

  • Confident working independently, with sound decision-making skills

  • Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings (drainage, earthworks, reinforcement)

Desirable:

  • Awareness of temporary works and lifting operations

  • Basic understanding of STATS and Utilities procedures

  • Working towards professional accreditation (ICE, IEng, etc.)
