Job Category: Technology and IT
Job Type: Internship
Job Location: USA
Company Name: Culture Biosciences

Company Overview

At Culture, we help scientists accelerate bioprocess development through our high-throughput, cloud-based bioreactor lab. You design your experiments, and we handle their execution using our 250mL bioreactors, ensuring high-quality results while you stay focused on process innovation.

As your experiment progresses in our lab, you can monitor and analyze real-time data through our online dashboard. With Culture, you gain faster insights, enabling smarter, data-driven decisions for your research and development.

About the Job

At Culture, our mission is to simplify and accelerate bioprocess development, helping customers bring biopharmaceutical products to market faster.

Specializing in upstream cell culture process development, Culture offers a unique platform that integrates products, services, and data management to support mammalian, microbial, and viral vector production processes. Our platform enables customers to execute high-throughput process development either in their own labs, at our service facilities, or both — all seamlessly managed through our cloud-based web application, accessible from anywhere for experiment design, management, and analysis.

Driven by a passion for biomanufacturing, engineering, and operations, our team builds solutions that make bioprocess development faster and more efficient. We value curiosity, strong communication, collaboration, a customer-first approach, and a results-driven mindset.

The Opportunity

Culture is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join our dedicated team of 10 developers working on a cloud-based bioreactor control and monitoring platform. As an intern, you’ll play an essential role in developing and running end-to-end integration tests to ensure system reliability and performance.

Your work will focus on creating automated tests for backend APIs, published API endpoints, and frontend components, primarily using Python and Cypress. You’ll also participate in manual testing efforts to validate complex system interactions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality releases.

This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to work with cloud-connected software that integrates with hardware systems, gaining valuable experience in SaaS platform testing within the biotech space.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and execute automated end-to-end integration tests for our Stratyx platform.

  • Test backend APIs, published endpoints, and frontend components.

  • Write automated test scripts primarily in Python and Cypress.

  • Perform manual testing to validate system functionality.

  • Collaborate with developers to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Gain exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and how software interacts with hardware systems.

  • Learn about fermentation, cell culture, and biotechnological processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled between your junior and senior year of an undergraduate program, or a master’s student between years.

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming).

  • Programming experience in Python or another major language.

  • Interest in software systems that interface with hardware.

  • Solid problem-solving and debugging skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, small-team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with automated testing frameworks (e.g., PyTest, Cypress) is a plus.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms like AWS is helpful but not required.

  • Interest in REST APIs, API testing, and manual testing of hardware/software systems.

  • (Technical guidance and mentorship from a tech lead will be provided to support your success.)

Why Join Us?

  • Hands-on experience testing cloud-based biotech software.

  • Collaboration with a passionate and experienced team of developers.

  • Exposure to modern software testing methodologies and cloud technologies.

  • Opportunity to contribute to innovations impacting biotech and scientific research.

Location & Schedule

This is a hybrid role based in the San Francisco Bay Area, requiring 2–3 days per week onsite at our South San Francisco office.
The internship will run for three months.

Compensation

  • Hourly pay rate: $35.00

Diversity & Inclusion
