Project Summary
Lionbridge is seeking bilingual freelance interpreters to provide over-the-phone Spanish-to-English interpretation for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), a division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In this remote, on-demand role, you will help individuals navigating the immigration system by facilitating accurate, clear communication between English and Spanish speakers on a wide range of sensitive topics including citizenship, asylum, and naturalization.
What You’ll Do

Provide live, two-way interpretation via phone for government-related inquiries

Handle on-demand calls, usually in a three-way format, lasting 10–30 minutes

Interpret professionally, sensitively, and accurately while maintaining neutrality

Apply training and familiarity with government-specific terminology and procedures
Key Qualifications

Advanced fluency in spoken Spanish and English

Strong memory retention and note-taking skills

Excellent communication and professionalism across cultural contexts

Must pass a language proficiency assessment

Prior experience in language services or interpretation preferred, but not required

Experience in court or immigration/government settings is a plus
Eligibility Requirements (DHS Project Specific)
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card holder)
Must have lived in the U.S. for 3 of the past 5 years
Willing to undergo a background check and fingerprinting
Must complete DHS-required forms and the e-QIP security questionnaire
