Position Overview
The Special Education Teacher is a state-certified educator responsible for teaching and supporting students in a virtual learning environment. The role involves managing online instruction, fostering academic growth, building strong relationships with families, and collaborating with colleagues to ensure student success.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional
- 
Deliver engaging virtual instruction (minimum 15 live hours per week) 
- 
Prepare students for standardized assessments 
- 
Track academic progress, attendance, and student performance 
- 
Adapt course content and use data to drive instruction 
- 
Participate in coaching sessions and professional training 
- 
Maintain gradebooks, report student progress, and ensure academic integrity 
Relationship Building
- 
Communicate regularly with students and parents/learning coaches 
- 
Support families with technology and virtual learning setup 
- 
Foster positive connections with students to encourage engagement and achievement 
- 
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to coordinate student support 
Additional Duties
- 
Organize virtual clubs, social events, and learning activities 
- 
Travel occasionally for testing and in-person events as required 
Required Qualifications
- 
Bachelor’s degree 
- 
At least 6 months of student teaching experience 
- 
Ability to pass background checks 
Preferred Qualifications
- 
Experience teaching special education students online or in-person 
- 
Familiarity with Canvas, PowerSchool, and Microsoft Office tools 
- 
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills 
- 
Resides in Northern Virginia, Tidewater, Central Virginia, or Northern Neck Region
