Sr Coder

Job Summary

The Senior Coder (Sr. Coder) serves as the lead coder for an assigned team, responsible for training staff on policies, procedures, and correct coding standards. This position monitors team performance, ensures accurate coding of claims, audits staff work, and serves as a resource to both coders and other departments to optimize billing accuracy and efficiency.

 Key Responsibilities

• Train new coders on departmental policies and coding guidelines

• Provide ongoing education, audits, and support to designated coding teams

• Monitor coder workloads and suggest staffing adjustments to supervisors

• Act as a resource for coding-related queries from staff and providers

• Create and maintain coder job aids and training materials

• Collaborate with providers on accurate documentation and charge capture

• Ensure clean claim submissions with accurate CPT, ICD, HCPCS, and modifier usage

• Review patient demographics and documentation for claim readiness

• Assist with denial analysis and billing dispute resolution when needed

• Meet department production and quality standards

• Support collaboration with Patient Financial Services to meet revenue cycle goals

• Perform other duties as assigned

 Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent

• 4+ years of professional fee coding experience

• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD, HCPCS coding guidelines

• Active CPC (AAPC) or CCS-P (AHIMA) certification

 Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a lead coding role

• Experience with GECB/IDX and Cerner systems
