Job Description

Join H-E-B as a Human Resources Generalist and serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, influencing strategic business outcomes while upholding our people-first culture. This full-time exempt role is based in San Antonio, TX and offers the opportunity to drive change, lead key HR initiatives, and shape the employee experience for multiple business units across the region or division.

As a key partner to leadership, you will help align human capital strategies with business goals, provide coaching, ensure policy compliance, and lead cross-functional projects—all while strengthening H-E-B’s world-class culture.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnerships

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with leadership and HR teams

  • Offer expert HR advice, change management support, and direction in re-orgs, displacements, and talent retention

  • Influence business strategies through data-driven insight and cross-functional program involvement

  • Act as HR lead in Partner relations and sensitive organizational initiatives

  • Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance across all HR functions

Attracting, Developing & Retaining Talent

  • Deliver and facilitate corporate training (leadership, compliance, policy)

  • Support the selection, hiring, and compensation process at the management level

  • Interpret and communicate HR policies, employment laws, and compliance standards

  • Coach leaders to develop future-ready teams

Culture & Employee Relations

  • Drive morale and maintain a culture of positivity, integrity, and trust

  • Lead response efforts in crises (natural disasters, violence, etc.)

  • Conduct Partner relations, vulnerability audits, and implement action plans

  • Offer guidance on labor and union matters

Leadership & Investigation

  • Lead HR investigations, make sound recommendations, and execute strategic plans

  • Handle Partner appeals and coach HR team members

  • Function with urgency, independence, and a high level of judgment

  • Influence across all leadership levels—without formal authority

Qualifications

Education & Experience (Preferred)

  • Degree in HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent training/experience)

  • 6+ years of HR or operations experience

  • 2+ years of leadership experience

  • SPHR certification preferred

  • Business consulting or cross-functional HR exposure

Key Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of labor relations

  • Strong negotiation, communication, and facilitation skills

  • Project management expertise

  • Proficiency in MS Office, HRIS systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Kenexa, etc.)

  • Ability to work with senior leadership on complex issues

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Fast-paced retail and office environment

  • Frequent travel by car or air with overnight stays

  • Extended work hours, including standing, walking, and sitting

  • Occasionally lift up to 10 lbs

  • Must be accessible to business units and able to adapt to a changing environment
