Role Overview
We’re looking for a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer / Economist with expertise in auction theory, econometrics, and machine learning to optimize Pinterest’s ad marketplace. You’ll design models, run experiments, and collaborate across teams to balance user experience with advertiser success.
Key Responsibilities

Build statistical models and production systems to improve marketplace design.

Optimize auctions, ad diversity, load balance, and utility functions.

Design experiments to measure long-term marketplace impact.

Develop strategies to balance short-term and long-term growth.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve marketplace performance.

Focus areas: churn/retention modeling, pricing, ranking, mechanism design, budget/bidding innovation.
Qualifications
-
MS/PhD in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, or related field.

2+ years of industry experience.

Strong background in auction theory, econometrics, data analysis, and ML algorithms.

Proficient in statistical methods and software engineering.

Ads domain knowledge is a plus.
Compensation & Work Model

Salary: $177,309 – $310,291 USD (based on location & experience)
