Core Qualifications: Billing Specialist

We’re looking for a dedicated individual to join our team, playing a key role in our billing operations. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

As part of your core duties, you’ll:

  • Assist management with training new staff.
  • Monitor and manage accounts by running weekly reports to keep content streamlined.
  • Ensure all claims are verified, and edits are collected and released promptly.
  • Provide monthly reports on billing edits to managing staff.
  • Verify all controls are followed to prevent missed charges.
  • Confirm that all payment reconciliation processes are adhered to at the clinics.
  • Ensure all charges are entered in a timely manner.
  • Review encounters for all pertinent information.
  • Coordinate the correction of inaccurate vouchers and reconcile daily voucher reports.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.

Department-Specific Functions

Your day-to-day will also involve:

  • Reviewing and releasing all physician charges from assigned work queues promptly.
  • Thoroughly reviewing encounters for complete patient demographics, guarantor and insurance details, place of service, referrals, claim info records, and managed care authorization requirements.
  • Running insurance eligibility checks and resolving registration issues.
  • Manually entering paper vouchers for any missing charges.
  • Reviewing and correcting erroneous or rejected charges.
  • Distributing credits from patient payments as needed.
  • Assigning charges to cases and phases.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (required).
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (required).
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
  • Strong ability to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • The capability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written form.
