About the Role
Howard Hughes is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to lead payroll operations across five states, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for ~500 employees. This role requires deep expertise in Workday Payroll, compliance with federal and state tax regulations, reconciliation, reporting, and serving as the main point of contact for payroll-related inquiries.
Key Responsibilities

Payroll Administration: Process bi-weekly payroll for salaried and hourly staff; ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including garnishments and deductions.

Workday Management: Utilize and configure Workday Payroll, Absence Management, and Time Tracking modules. Maintain payroll data integrity and generate reports.

Reconciliation & Reporting: Reconcile payroll accounts, resolve discrepancies, prepare summaries, and assist with year-end tax documents (W-2s, 940s).

Employee Support: Address payroll questions, train HR staff, and handle sensitive payroll data with confidentiality.

Process Improvements: Identify efficiency opportunities, participate in system upgrades, audits, and compliance reviews.
Qualifications

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of payroll experience in a multi-state environment.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Workday Payroll, One Source Virtual, Microsoft Excel, payroll integrations, and compliance reporting.

Knowledge: Strong grasp of federal & state payroll regulations and tax laws.
